Summer 2020 Wildlife Camps Feature Themes from Superhero Wildlife to Wizardly Wildlife

Ohio Wildlife Center’s 2020 Summer Day Camps will be accepting registrations in January, 2020 for weekly programs that offer hands-on animal care, exploration and discovery themes, and activities focused on nature stewardship and leadership.

“Campers will be exploring different topics ranging from invasive species to endangered species,” according to Stormy Gibson, director of education for Ohio Wildlife Center. Returning this year are age grouped themes, including the popular “Art in Nature” and “Wizardly Wildlife” linked to the Harry Potter series of books.

The Owlets camp, for ages 3-5, features a “Young Naturalists” theme during half-day sessions in the mornings and afternoons. “We continue to be one of the most unique summer camps in Central Ohio with our Animal Ambassadors and beautiful natural setting that is accessible and close to urban and suburban neighborhoods,” Gibson said.

Campers in all age groups participate in animal care, close-up animal encounters with some of the 64 Animal Ambassadors at the Education Center, hiking, fishing, and nature stewardship opportunities.

The schedule, age groups and camp themes for 2020 are:

  • Young Naturalists for Owlets aged 3-5 years old (June 29th to July 1st & July 20th to July 22nd)
  • Wild About Wildlife for campers aged 6-12 years old has six different camp themes –  Superhero Wildlife (July 13th to July 17th); Survival Wilderness (June 15th to June 19th); Nature (June 29th to July 3rd); Wildlife Rangers (August 3rd to August 7th); Art in Nature (June 22nd to June 26th); Wizardly Wildlife themed camps will have two sessions this year (June 8th to June 12th & July 6th to July 10th)
  • For the one week camp for campers aged 10-12 years old the theme is Aquatic Adventures (July 27th to July 31st)
  • Wild Academy “Natural Navigators” for campers aged 13-16 years old (July 20th to July 24th)

Camp fees for ages 6-16 are $295 a week. The half-day fee for the Owlets (age 3-5) session is $110. Registration and full details will be available January 1, 2020 at www.ohiowildlifecenter.org/camp

More than 2,800 students from Delaware, Fairfield, Franklin, Logan, Madison, Union, Pickaway, Lawrence and Gallia counties have participated in Ohio Wildlife’s summer wildlife program since 2003.

“Our main goals are to have fun, to have campers explore the natural environment, and learn how people can successfully coexist with native wildlife and appreciate stewardship of the natural environment,” Gibson said. “Hands-on learning extends themes and brings concepts to life.”
