Correctional Facility Animal Care Program in Need of Supplies

In addition to our dedicated home care volunteers, OWC also has alliances with local correctional facilities.  On a weekly and monthly basis, animals are taken to and from the facilities where they receive the food, water and shelter that their parent animals can no longer provide for them.  Our animals get the care they need, and prisoners are exposed to a rehabilitation opportunity.      

  • Unsalted nuts in the shell (walnuts, pecans)
  • Frozen mixed vegetables (no onions)
  • Acorns
  • Unflavored Pedialyte
  • Bird seed (cannot contain millet)

We also need monetary donations to purchase hard-to-find specialty items like mammal formula, baby bird food and special nipples for feeding.

The Red-tailed hawk is a medium-sized bird of prey found throughout North America. It is generally non-aggressive toward humans and other birds and is an opportunistic feeder with a diet mostly of small mammals. Raccoons are opportunistic eaters and can be avoided by keeping garbage and compost piles secure, and keeping pet food inside. He may spend more than a quarter of all the daylight hours in territory defense. He vigorously keeps all other males out of the territory and defends the nests from predators.
