Helping Wild Infants - Rescue and Transport

If you have determined with the assistance of a wildlife rehabilitation facility that a wild animal needs to be rescued, exercise caution in capturing and transporting it.  Wear gloves to avoid being bitten or scratched.  Throw a blanket over the young animal and carefully place it in a cardboard box.  The animal will need to be kept warm.  Place the box in a dark and quiet place and avoid excess handling.   Never offer food or water unless the wildlife rehabilitation facility instructs you to.  Transport the animal to the wildlife rehabilitation facility as soon as possible.

If the animal is an adult and you are concerned for your safety or have questions about how to capture and transfer it, call the OWC hotline for advice: 614-793-9453.
